5 Strategies To Grow and Monetize A Facebook Business Page As A Network Marketer
As a network marketer you probably get that you need a Facebook business page but you are also might be thinking it’s just another thing for you to have to keep up with am I right? I get it but it’s an important tool for your online business and generating new leads which is the life blood of any network marketing business.
While networking on your personal page is great it’s also very limiting and using your personal Facebook page to represent something other than yourself (like a business) actually goes against Facebook’s policies. So learning how to be a legit business owner is always the way to go.
There is a lot of information out there about algorithms, best times to post, what to post and organic reach that it can be confusing and why a lot of people hope to skate by using their personal page to run their business.
Because here’s the honest truth: the majority of people on your personal page aren’t even interested in the business of you, they are interested in the personal you like keeping up with your family, your hobbies, etc. If you have been running your business for 3 months or more I can guarantee you the majority of people on your personal page are tapped out seeing info about your network marketing business. While many of your family and friends will cheer you on, it’s an audience with very little longevity to grow a business with a steady stream of real customer and business partner leads.
But are you ready for some good news? You CAN get great Facebook reach on a business page for your network marketing business, you can get people interacting with your content and you can get your Facebook fans to click over to your site and convert them into customers and recruiting leads.
And you can do it without spending a fortune on ads and tearing your hair out in the process.
How do I know? Because I've done it.
As a network marketer I have grown my Facebook business page to over 70K followers, something I could never do from my personal page. The content from this page allows me to nurture a relationship with a targeted audience and convert them into email subscribers and leads for my network marketing business.
So, how did I do it?
Well, first let me tell you what I DID NOT do. I've never paid for followers or engaged in like-for-like threads to artificially increase my numbers. I take growing an authentic audience seriously and it all comes down to hard work and consistency with these 5 simple strategies.
While these strategies might seem obvious and like a no-brainer, don't be fooled. There's a huge difference between knowing what you’re supposed to be doing and actually doing it. Kind of like “I know I should be working out to lose those last stubborn 10 pounds” but then you never work out. You know what you are supposed to do but it’s the action of doing it that leads to the results.
So here we go, 5 strategies to grow and monetize a Facebook Business Page as a network marketer!
1. Create A Well Branded Business Page
Obviously you need a Facebook business page but one of the worst things you can do as a network marketer is create a page like “Susie Jones, XYZ Rep” so you can share all the latest and greatest happenings with your company. That strategy will not work, trust me. People will only like and follow you for the whole package of you, not for the company you are partnered with.
Disagree me on this one?
When was the last time you hit the like button for a Facebook page to share and comment on posts where someone was throwing up their products, services and “fun” facts about their company with no real value for you as a follower?
I bet you can’t think of one.
Now, think about the Facebook business pages you do follow. Why do you follow them? Why do you like, share and comment on the posts? Because there is something that resonates with you, right? Because the page inspires you, provides helpful information and isn’t trying to clutter up your newsfeed with self promos every single day.
Spend time on this step as it’s the most important for growing and monetizing your page. What kind of content do you want to share? What do you want to talk about and give value around? What kind of problems will you solve for your followers? This content will make up 80-90% of your content while sharing about what you do will make up the other 20-10% Once you have crystal clear direction you can name your page. Take your time and think this through. Facebook is like a search engine, so think about keywords that need to go into your page name.
For example are you passionate about wellness or beauty and represent a company with those kinds of products? Be sure to include your name (NOT your company name - your page is not about your company it’s about you) into your page name so people can find it. Susan Jones, Health Coach or Christy Williams, Organic Living or Cindy Smith, Beauty Blogger
One of the biggest mistakes I see people making is not including their personal name in the page name. When someone searches for you they are most likely going to search for you by how they know you, your name. Without this piece of information in your Facebook page name people will not find you.
Take my business page for example, when I meet people for the first time like at a networking meeting I don’t say “Hi I’m the Bossy Beauty”. I introduce myself by my name, Terri Willingham and if that person wanted to search me out later and connect that is what they would use so my Facebook page is Terri Willingham, The Bossy Beauty to ensure it pulls up when they search my name.
2. Define Your Ideal Follower
The Internet is saturated with content and we all have a lot of competition so why should someone visit your page, like it and scroll through all of your posts when they could just as easily scroll through 100 other pages?
If you want to create a page that people will love enough to come back to again and again, you have to create a page and content that is perfect for them. Don't settle for a page where your audience thinks half of your content is interesting and the other half is so-so.
You want to create a page that makes your ideal follower and prospect say “Wow, this page is awesome! I can’t wait to check out more!” A page where they feel inspired to like, comment and share your posts, where it’s a welcomed part of their newsfeed.
Do this by embracing that you are not meant to work with everyone and by getting crystal clear on who your target audience is.
• Who are they?
• What do they like?
• What do they need?
• What struggles do they face?
• Why do they get on Facebook?
• What are they looking for when they visit your page?
• What knowledge and experiences can you offer to help others?
The more specific you can get, the easier it will be for you to create and deliver consistent high-quality content that speaks directly to your followers.
You’ll need to get over worrying about excluding people the more focused you get. Quality over quantity wins the race. It's far better to have 100 fans who LOVE your page and can't get enough of it than 1,000 fans who barely know who you are and ignore half your content.
For example, having a beauty type page isn't enough. Is your page for a younger generation who are into make-up tutorials and what’s trending for eye liners or is your page for older women in their 40s who are concerned with skin care and how to look younger?
Get specific on who your audience is and what kind of content they will love. Otherwise your content will be all over the place and you will struggle to attract quality followers.
3. Share Only THE BEST Content
Once you've gotten super clear about your ideal follower, create and share only the very BEST content possible. Content that your followers will LOVE, content they can’t help but hit the share button to their page or DM their BFF, content they'll be thinking about all day. Content they'll tell their spouse about later that evening or a month from now because it really resonated with them.
How do you find and create content that leads your follower to have a strong reaction like that?
Well, first you have to know your follower as discussed above. What does she struggle with? What does she need? What keeps her up at night? What is her biggest concern, her goals and secret dreams?
When every single post on your Facebook page directly speaks to your target reader, you are inviting them to come back for more and more! They'll not only read your posts but also share them and this brings more organic growth to your page.
Consistency is definitely key here! Post at least 3 times a week on your business page by sharing well created quote graphics that your audience can resonate with and share, blog posts you write that help solve a problem for your reader, something that speaks to her deeply and want her friends to read, go live with a great tip (live videos get better organic reach in the feed) and as long as you are following the 80/20 rule sprinkle in info about the products you sell and business opportunity.
Be sure to offer lots of value. Give a great tip and then talk about how your product can help. Share a great before and after and be sure to share the story behind it. Talk about your personal story and how your life has been blessed because of what you do.
Create a schedule for yourself and stick to it like posting every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
4. Be Social
Facebook is classified as a social media platform for a reason; it's supposed to be social!
People don't hop on Facebook first thing in the morning because they can't wait to read about the latest news happening with your company and they don't line up in your virtual newsfeed to be the first to hear about your latest products and promotions.
They are on Facebook to socialize, share what’s happening in their lives and connect with friends and family. So if you want people to engage with you, you have to create interesting, sociable content.
For instance, you don’t want to come up in someone’s newsfeed first thing in the morning shouting “If you are trying to lose weight COME CHECK OUT THE LATEST PRODUCT WE ARE LAUNCHING PLEASEEEEEEE!! Your potential customers and next business partner is on Facebook to have meaningful conversations, to socialize and talk about things that matter to them.
Craft your content in a way that inspires them to take notice and participate. Post a great picture of yourself and say something like “As a mom of 2 boys I have struggled with getting started with a workout routine (the struggle is REAL!) It hasn’t been easy but I think I have finally found a groove that is working for me. Anyone else struggling with finding their groove? Here are 3 tips that have helped me:…)
Give 2 great tips that have worked for you and tie the last one into a product you are using. Leave spammy links and sleezy call to actions out of it and just share. Creating curiosity is one of attraction marketing’s best kept secrets.
No one wants to follow someone who never responds, only wants to talk about themselves or who has ulterior motives. Don't be that person. Your followers will see right through you and not be back. When someone comments on one of your posts make them feel valued and special by commenting back! Ask a question, earn their trust, start up a conversation and get to know your audience. Be real and genuine.
5. Monetize It
Now that you are creating juicy content to keep new followers coming to your page you can start monetizing your audience. This has to be done with with grace and finesse.
Carefully crafted content can have delicate call to actions like “if you are ready to hear more message me for a virtual coffee chat” or you can post the link to your product website after giving something of value. Remember, call to actions should always follow something of high value where you help your audience solve a problem first.
For example, a beauty blogger who sells make-up could go live on her Facebook page and do a tutorial about how to properly apply eye liner (something a lot of women struggle with). At the end of her video she can say something like “if you want to check out the products I used during this tutorial you can click the link to my website (which would be included in the post) and of course message me for any questions!”
Because she took the time to show her audience how to properly apply eye liner, she earned their trust and are much more likely to check out her website. She can also boost her Facebook live by spending $15-$20 over 5-7 days to ensure more of her page followers (warm audience) see it.
This has been an effective way for me to build my business. As a mom of two boys in my 50s I understand the struggle women my age have with thinning, dry hair. Much of the content I create helps women 40+ understand how their hair changes as they age and how to properly care for it by avoiding harsh chemicals and using anti-aging hair care products.
The best way to capture and convert leads is through your own website and email list to direct your social media followers to so they can learn more about you and a free resource to capture leads via email where you can continue nurturing a relationship with them. This is a long term monetization strategy and something to definitely work towards as you grow your page.
Remember that building trust and influence on social media takes time and hard work. Showing up consistently on your Facebook page with high quality content that your followers will enjoy is a key ingredient to running a successful network marketing business.
Be sure to manage your expectations. You probably won’t go live for the first time on your page and have a ton of people show up, click through to your website or make a purchase. It can take 8-10 times for someone to decide to make a purchase but when they are ready they will think of you because of the great content and value you provide. Remember your job is to create content and deliver it consistently. The trust, followers and sales will come so don’t allow yourself to get discouraged with the lack of instant gratification that rarely exists in the world of business.
So there you have it, 5 solid tips for growing and monetizing a Facebook business page. Master these tips and you'll be way ahead of the competition (and that's a good place to be).
Because, honestly, Facebook isn't trying to kill your success. They want you to do well, but with limited space in the newsfeed, and that space shrinking all the time, only the pages with the best consistent content are going to find a spot in it. Will yours be one of them?
I hope so because I am here cheering for you!
