How I Grew My Home Based Business Income To 5-Figures Per Month

So before I jump in, I feel it’s important to disclose that here you will find no magic potions or unicorn wands for creating an income from home. What you will find is my real life story of running a home based business with old fashioned hard work, persistence and I hope to encourage you along the way to chase your dreams of being an entrepreneur with these practical tips because if this country girl from Texas can do it, I promise you can too!

So, if you are still here and still reading it means you know that running a legit home based business is not some overnight joy ride. You know a scam when you hear one, like making $10K a month while sitting on your couch. If it were that easy everyone would be doing it but the reality is that this entrepreneurship gig is not for everyone.

By definition entrepreneur means “a person who organizes and operates a business or businesses, taking on greater than normal financial risks in order to do so.” There is a certain amount of truth to it takes money to make money, doesn’t mean you have to go broke doing it or put yourself in financial ruin but it does mean you need to be business minded and willing to take risks when it makes strategic sense to do so.

If you are still here and still reading it means you aren’t happy just being comfortable living pay check to pay check and by no means am I knocking that. There are people who need the financial stability of knowing when and where their next pay check is coming from and there is no shame in that but if you took the time to open this article it’s because there is something inside of you that wants more and I get it.

At one time I was working a full time job behind a cubicle with a steady paycheck but I wanted more. To quote the late Steve Jobs “Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes… The ones who see things differently – they’re not fond of rules. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the one thing you can’t do is ignore them, because they change things… Because the ones who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do. Think different.”

So if you are ready and willing to think different, to pave the way for others and be a change maker I am willing to share how I grew my home based business income to 5-figures per month!

1. Find Your Business Angle. When I started looking at ways to work from home I explored all kinds of ideas. Some require more up front investment like opening a brick and mortar store, investing in inventory and the overhead of hiring employees. That was not the business model for me. I am a mom of two very busy boys and babysitting a store was not my personal idea of freedom.

My research led me to network marketing where I could join an established company for very little investment, where I would not have to find, develop, create or stock my own products and where I would have a team to support me in my success. This business model allowed me to jump right in and hit the ground running to starting earning money. I am part of a beauty company who creates botanical anti-aging hair and skin care products with a proven system in place to help new partners duplicate a successful business model. In my first month I earned 2 company promotions and enough income to pay our monthly mortgage (income disclosed is in no way intended to guarantee earnings potential).

Find your business angle.
Think about what aligns with your goals and what you envision working for you and your family.
What is your budget for investing in a business?
Do you want a physical store front?
Do you want the flexibility to take your business with you while you travel?

2. Fire Your Fears. Starting a business will be scary. There will be unknowns and you will make mistakes. That is all part of growing as an entrepreneur so you might as well accept now that you will need to fire your fears. When I left my corporate job I didn’t know exactly how things were going to work out, all I knew is that I believed in myself and would figure it out day by day. Fear is a liar and will only hold you back.

3. Set Goals. This seems cliche but I didn’t become a 5-figure per month income earner in my network marketing company by waking up every day and saying “not sure exactly what I am doing today so will just wing it”. Knowing where you want to go and how you will get there is crucial. You don’t plan a vacation, load your family up in the car and say “well not sure how we are going to get there so will just wing it as we go along”. That’s absurd, right?! Well so is winging your business.

While it would be great to jump into a business and earn 10K per month in your first month that is not the most realistic game plan. I started by breaking my big long term goals down in smaller 90 day goals so I could outline what my monthly, weekly and daily activities needed to look like in order to reach them.

1. How many people I needed to recruit to hit my next rank advancement.
2. How many customers I wanted to enroll so they could start seeing the amazing benefits I was getting with our hair and skin care products.
3. How many business partners I wanted to help reach their next promotion.
4. Weekly marketing strategy on social media to attract new followers.
5. How many new email subscribers each week.
6. Business promotions I wanted to earn over the next 90 days.

Every 90 days I write out my goals and work to achieve them. Each new goal brought me one step closer to where I am today and keeps me on track for the new goals I have.

When you determine the right business model and angle, you will need to break down your goals to help keep you on track. What I love about network marketing is I have mentors and a team to help hold me accountable so I never feel like I am all on my own. It’s been vital to helping me accelerate my success and income goals.

4. Being coachable. Everyone starts out as a beginner in the beginning and that means being open to learning from those who have achieved their own level of success. I didn’t go into starting a business with a know-it-all attitude. I surrounded myself with people who had what I wanted. I listened to their story and picked out the golden nuggets that I felt could help me on my path. I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and even though I have achieved the level of success I have, I don’t want to stop here and become stagnant. I continue to push myself to reach new goals which means I have to continue to be coachable not only for my own success but to also mentor others.

5. Personal development. Being a business owner means learning new skills from growing a strong mindset, social media marketing, how to start a website, grow an email list and having a healthy relationship with money. I have incredible mentors inside and outside of my network marketing company who help me in reaching the goals that I have. Investing in my personal development has been the life line of growing my business and income. To quote the very successful and wise Warren Buffett “the best investment you can make is an investment in yourself. The more you learn, the more you’ll earn.

So know that this will be a journey where there is always something to learn and opportunities to push yourself. Embrace it and be sure to have fun along the way!

6. Persistence (no matter what). You will find a long your path to business success people who support you and people who don’t. You will experience people who cheer you on and those who don’t. Often times the reality is those closest to you will be biggest negative nellies and those you barely know will be your biggest cheerleaders. It’s just the nature of entrepreneurship.

You will have to persist through the highs and lows that come with being in business. You will have days where you question whether you have what it takes (you do so never listen to that uninvited voice in your head) and you will have days where you feel on top of the world. When you have hard days, give yourself some extra self care and regroup. It’s okay to unplug and recharge but when the sun comes up the next morning get back up on that horse and keep going. You will be so proud you did!

7. Break up with comparison. I’m going to call it like I see it; there is a lot of boasting and gloating going on in the online world. Ever heard the expression “I’m too busy watering my own grass to notice if yours is greener”? In this journey you will have to get good at filtering in what is useful information and what is not. A lot of times grass is getting watered with a lot of bull-malarkey so don’t fall into the comparison trap. Your journey is about honoring who you are and blazing your own trail not someone else’s, always remember that.

So while there is no weird science here in growing a successful home based business I hope I have given you a practical recipe for success that you can start implementing today!
