Why Every Family Needs A Financial Backup Plan or Side Hustle

They say valuable lessons are learned through hardships and I personally believe that. Whole-heartedly. Struggles can define us, grow and mold us into better versions of ourselves while helping us to make better decisions in the future.

Through the pandemic of 2020 also known as COVID-19 or my personal favorite “The Corona”, I found that many of the women in my circle had what I would describe as an awakening. With many losing their jobs and incomes literally overnight and the day to day uncertainty of when they would be allowed to go back to work, it became clear how important it is to have a financial backup plan or side hustle bringing in additional income because you just never know, right?

It’s easy to get caught up in our day to day routines so much so that we don’t often think ahead much less plan ahead until the unexpected happens and pulls our comfortable little lives right out from underneath us. I’ve been there friend. A husband’s real estate career that has to weather the ups and downs of an unpredictable market and having my own corporate job loss struggles. Having all your eggs in one basket doesn’t sound so bad until the bottom of that basket suddenly drops out.

Many don’t consider themselves to be entrepreneurial material but I would beg to differ. If you can create a resume, fill out applications and pound the pavement to go on job interviews and market yourself as the best candidate for a position, you can market other things too. It’s just a matter of figuring out what you love to do and can create an additional stream of income around. If you can combine similar passions into profit, even better.

For example, a hair stylist can take something she is already passionate about and create an additional income stream around marketing hair care products and recommending them to her current client base.

Someone who loves pets and animals can start a pet sitting, walking or boarding business.

An accounting teacher can start a side hustle as a bookkeeper or CPA.

An English teacher who has a deep passion for writing can create a side business doing copywriting.

Just to name a few!
