There are many moving parts to running a successful online business and one of those pieces that I feel strongly about is building an email list. I know for many this can feel intimidating or like too much work but as a fearless womenpreneur I know you will want to hear me out as to why I feel every online business owner should be building an email list:

You aren’t limited by algorithms like you are on social media. With 1K followers on your Facebook page, you can expect to get an organic reach with your posts of 1-2% without running ads. When you send an email to 1K subscribers, you don’t have to worry about being limited with reach. With social media you are basically renting space from that platform but you own your email list.
While email is not exactly perfect with an average of 22% of emails bouncing back or going to junk folders that still leaves you 78% of people on your list who will see your emails which means you will reach 76% more people than you will on social media. (I mean that is seriously a no-brainer).

What happens if your Instagram account gets hacked or Facebook page gets shut down? Without an email list you don’t have a back-up plan to reach your followers and you are starting ALL OVER FROM SCRATCH 😳 I don’t know about you but there is peace of mind in knowing that if something happened today to my social media accounts, I could quickly email my 10K+ subscribers and say “Hey friend! Today was not my lucky day with social media with my account getting hacked but I am choosing to roll with it. Be sure to connect with me over on my new account!”
I mean, ya it would still suck to deal with losing a social media account but not near as bad as not having any way to communicate with my community.

That means when they email their list of subscribers, they are much more likely to generate a sale through their email list than through other channels like social media and who doesn’t want more sales, right?!

Political issues and world events can quickly dominate and overshadow social media platforms and affect the reach of your content and the mindset of your followers. People who are taking a break from the heaviness of social media are still checking their emails so your business doesn’t have to be negatively infected by the vibe on social media. (Yep I said infected because that is exactly how social media feels sometimes in my life and business, like an infection. Thankfully with over 10K subscribers on my email list I too can take a break from social media and keep on rocking my business!)
Build More Rapport
Email allows you to build more rapport with your audience in a more intimate way so they become loyal followers and buyers. Once they opt-in to your list, you can create emails that are more personal, share more tips and stay in front of your audience a lot more than relying on social media reach.
